Pegasus Bay Winery, located in the Waipara Valley in North Canterbury, is a family-owned business that started in the mid-1980s by Ivan Donaldson after he returned from his research trip to the vineyards of Europe to create one of the first vineyards there.
The Waipara Valley has an ideal climate for growing grapes, with long hours of sunshine, warm, dry summers, and long autumns. The Pegasus Bay vineyard has extremely low grape yields per vine, resulting in high-quality grapes that fully express the characteristics of this unique environment.
Pegasus Bay is an accredited member of the NZWG sustainable viticulture program and is committed to sustainable vineyard management, minimal handling of the fruit during processing, and gentle pressing using natural methods to control pests and diseases. The winery's philosophy is minimal intervention at all stages from the vine to the bottle.
